2019 Kettmeir Pinot Nero Vigna Maso Reiner Alto Adige DOC
ABOUT THE ESTATE
Since 1919, Kettmeir has been at the heart of winemaking in Alto Adige in the northeast corner of Italy. The site’s high elevation creates unique conditions for grape cultivation featuring a range of soil types, aspects, and temperatures. The fruit for this single vineyard wine is sourced from Vigna Maso Reiner in the village of Pochi di Salorno.
WINEMAKING
Red wine vinification with maceration on the skins, starting at 12 - 13 °C and gradually increasing the temperature of the fermentation, arriving at 25 - 27 °C at the end. Cool temperatures at the beginning of the alcoholic fermentation allow for the extraction of Pinot Nero’s typical color and stabilization with the grape tannins. At the end of the fermentation, the new wine is racked into 30 hl oak casks, in which it matures for 12 - 15 months.
TASTING NOTES
Ruby red color with scents of wild berry fruits and cherries, as well as hints of vanilla and tobacco. It's dry yet rounded, with a long and delicately spicy finish.
ENJOY WITH
Grilled poultry and braised or roasted red meats. Hearty bean soups, moderately mature cheeses, and smoked cold cuts.
